Let's Talk... Free Credit Report

Do you check you credit report every year?

Did you know you can check your credit reports once a year without harming your credit score?

Federal law allows you to request a free copy of your credit reports from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion once every 12 months.

Your credit report matters because it’s what lenders see when they are considering giving you a loan. It can affect your:

  • mortgage rates

  • apartment applications

  • credit card approvals

  • and even job applications

Here’s what you need to look for when checking your credit report:

  1. Identity Theft: Look for any suspicious activity or accounts you don't recognize. If you don’t recognize something, report it right away.

  2. Personal information: Make sure all your personal information is correct and up to date such as name, address, social security number, accounts and loans.

  3. Financial Standing: Review your financial habits, debt management, and payment history to help plan for big financial moves like buying a house or a car.

I set an annual reminder on my phone around my birthday to check my credit report. It’s a good habit to get into if you care about your financial health and well-being.

All you have to do is go to annualcreditreport.com and follow the 3 steps to your free online credit reports.
